Extend Open Paths

Intro

Extend the ends of open Paths along their tangents or a specified angle.

UI

Mode - Determine the units for the extended lengths:

  • Pixels - Extend the length of the Path by a specific number of pixels.
  • Percentage of Length - Extend the length of the Path based on a percentage of its original length.

Extend Start - Specify the length in px/% to extend the start of the Path by.

Extend End - Specify the length in px/% to extend the end of the Path by.

Angle Mode - Determine the direction of the extended ends

  • Path Tangent - Paths are extended along the tangent of the start/end points.
  • Path Curvature - Paths are extended by tracing a circle that represents the curvature at the end of the Path.
  • Arc -
  • Custom... - Paths are extended along a custom angle.

Arc Radius - When Angle Mode is set to Arc, set the radius of the circle the arc is drawn along.

Arc Sweep Angle - When Angle Mode is set to Arc, set the amount of 'the circle' to draw

Arc Direction - Determine the rotational direction arcs are generated in:

  • Clockwise - Generate arcs that sweep in a clockwise direction.
  • Counter-Clockwise - Generate arcs that sweep in a counter-clockwise direction.

Opposite Direction for End - The end arc is the opposite of what 'Arc Direction' says.

Start Angle - When Angle Mode is set to Custom, set a angle to extend the start of the Path along.

End Angle - When Angle Mode is set to Custom, set a angle to extend the end of the Path along.

Example
  1. Draw an open Path with the Pen or Pencil tool.
  2. Double click the Shape's Layer to load its UI into the Attribute Editor.
  3. Click the + button next to the Shape's Deformers attribute.
  4. Choose Extend Open Paths from the list.
  5. Increase the Extend Open Paths's Start and End values.
